HgsDb: Haplogroups Database to Understand Migration and Molecular Risk Assessment
Mitochondrial DNA Migration Route
Evolutionary path study of female lineage helps in understanding matrilineal inheritance of humans back to human origins in Africa and the following around the globe. When humans first travelled out of Africa some 60,000 years ago, they left genetic footprints still visible today. By mapping the appearance and frequency of genetic markers in modern peoples, we create a picture of when and where ancient humans moved around the world. These great migrations eventually led the descendants of a small group of Africans to occupy even the farthest reaches of the Earth.Maternal lineage and shared by all people who descended from the same matrilineal ancestral lineage as you. These earliest groups of mtDNA sequences - or haplogroups - are known by scientists as 'L1' and 'L0', and all subsequent groups are also known by a letter.
